President Yoweri Museveni has held bilateral talks with President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Speke Resort in Kampala.The meeting took place this afternoon after President Museveni had been sworn-in at the Kololo Independence ceremonial grounds in Kampala that was attended by over 14 Heads of State from Africa including Tanzania’s President Magufuli.During the meeting the Tanzanian leader welcomed Uganda’s decision to construct an oil pipeline from the Albertine Region in Western Uganda to Tanga in Tanzania."Uganda and Tanzania have always had a good relationship from the times of the late President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere," said Mr. Magufuli.He said that the decision to construct the pipeline through Tanzania was the right one because it will be cheap to build the pipeline. "The oil will just go by gravitational flow as Tanga is downhill. So, there is no use of a pumping machine," he said.He added that it will also be easy for Tanzania to construct a pipeline to join the Tanga pipeline. "Lake Tanganyika has traces of carbon materials and the area around it is well secured with highlands," he said.President Magufuli also revealed that the pipeline would not pass through people's land in Tanzania. "During my tenure as Minister for Works in Tanzania, I secured 22.5 metres on both sides of the road so no compensation will be needed," he added.The Presidents agreed to speed up the project and look for construction designs. President Museveni commended President Magufuli for his commitment to fighting against corruption.ENDS
