Was in Ibanda District today where I broke ground for the Kikyenkye-Nyabuhikye Gravity Water-flow Scheme, opened Muko Technical School and later addressed a rally at St Ann Secondary School, Kihani, grounds.
When both phases of the water flow scheme are complete, the project will serve upto 135,000 residents of six sub-counties in Ibanda and Kiruhura districts.
I am glad that the NRM government has made the population conscious of development. People pay attention to development around them. For example we tarmacked the Ibanda-Kazo-Mbarara road and now the Ibanda -Fort Portal road is also complete.
Now, the government is tackling the issue of water, reason I broke ground for the new project. Because there are natural sources of water here, the hilly and almost mountainous terrain has enabled harvesting this water and distributing it by gravity flow.
The water engineers will just pipe the water and it flows by gravity. However, the source of this water is natural and I urge people to protect sources of this water. Government will compensate those who settled in wetlands to vacate and save these water sources.
I thank Ibanda's political leadership led by Hon John Byabagambi for teaching people how to improve household income. I am told that coffee farming which was introduced here not so long ago is doing well, and the newly-built houses I have seen is testimony that incomes have indeed improved.
I urge the youth to take good care of themselves. Do not abuse drugs, shun alcohol and avoid promiscuity. Live responsible lives so that you not only enjoy the developments we have launched today but also contribute to development of Ibanda District and Uganda.
