The NRM Presidential Candidate, Mr. Yoweri Museveni, has said that the Government plans to build the Ikumba – Butogota road as part of its efforts to promote tourism in Kanungu district in particular and Kigezi Sub-Region in general. The President made the revelation today in Bugarama Trading Centre, Mpungu Sub-County in Kinkiizi West Constituency, Kanungu district where he addressed a campaign rally as he continues his campaign trail in Kigezi Sub-Region. “NRM Government has made plans to construct the Ikumba – Ruhiija – Mpungu – Butogota road as part of its efforts to promote tourism in Kanungu district and Kigezi Sub-Region in general. The other sectors to benefit from the road project are the tea export industry and the transport of passengers,” he said. He revealed that the Government would start off by improving the facility by upgrading it with murrum and later work on the tarmac. The area is endowed with tea growing. Mr. Museveni further said that the Government was working on the extension of electricity grid in Kinkiizi and the neighbouring areas. He added that the extension of electricity is designed to promote industries in the area. He, therefore, commended the people for increasing tea production. He expressed delight that the NRM Government has provided them with health and education facilities. He pledged to put in more resources in electricity supply, building roads and also facilitate them with a tea processing industry. Mr. Museveni said that the Government would enable them get dairy cows in order to empower them further to improve household income. The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, thanked wananchi for supporting President Museveni. He called on them to give all their votes to Mr. Museveni and all the NRM flag bearers on 18th February 2016 when Uganda votes in General Elections. ENDS
