President Yoweri Museveni has said that Industrial Parks are important in transforming the Ugandan economy. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Kehong China – Uganda Agricultural Industrial Park (CUAIP) in Ndibulungi village of Butuntumula Sub- County in Katikamu North Constituency in Luweero district this afternoon, the President said the agricultural industrial park will promote production and earnings of farmers. "In Africa, people have been sleeping. In Uganda we are used to towns with small shops selling soap, cooking oil but other countries have industrial parks and these have a lot of money," he said. President Museveni thanked the Chinese government for supporting and investing in Uganda. He pledged more Government financial resources for the development of industrial parks. "There is an industrial park at Namanve and another one in Nakasongola; and we are also going to put another in Kaweweta," he said. The Luweero Industrial park is an integrated agricultural project that includes units of rice, seed, poultry, feeds, livestock, grain processing, oil and food processing, farming machinery and agricultural technology training. Mr. Tang Zong Juni, the Manger of the Industrial Park, said that after its completion, the US$220 million project will churn out about 600,000 tons of agro-products annually to meet the domestic and regional markets’ demands on top of creating 25,000 jobs as well as availing opportunities of training for the local people. The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Mr. Zhao Yali, commended President Museveni for taking off time to launch the Park. "Your presence here shows the importance the government of Uganda attaches to the cooperation between Uganda and China," he said. Vice-President, Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Mr. Tress Buchanayandi, that without Portfolio and MP for Katikamu North Constituency, Engineer Abraham Byandala, State Minister for Primary Education, Mr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, NRM Central Region Vice Chairperson, Hajji Abdul Naduli attended the ceremony. In an earlier meeting with a Chinese delegation at Luweero State Lodge where the Governments of Uganda and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote agricultural production through the South-South cooperation under the agricultural industrial park framework, President Museveni noted that Uganda and China had entered into a new phase of cooperation through mutual support in the economic growth of Uganda. The President noted that China and Africa have been standing together in the last 100 years fighting against their enemies. He noted that China helped Africa in the liberation struggles in Southern Africa.
