President Yoweri Museveni has strongly advised women leaders in the country to fully participate in the eradication of poverty at household level by being role models in their areas.
"Let your light so shine that the world will see your good deeds and thank NRM," he said and urged women leaders to lead by examples.
He also advised women in general to join the NRM struggle and embrace commercial farming through engaging in income activities such as poultry and mushroom growing, among others.
The President made the remarks while closing a 5-day Central Region NRM Women’s League Conference at London College of St. Lawrence in Maya in Wakiso district.
The conference ran under the theme: Accelerating innovation and creativity among NRM women leaders as change agents.
The President pledged support to women groups in the country through government programs such as Operation Wealth Creation to enable them fight poverty out of their homes.
Mr. Museveni highlighted the four sectors of the economy namely agriculture, industry, services and ICT and emphasized the need for people to concentrate on these sectors to be able to get jobs rather than eyeing Public Service which has limited capacity to employ Ugandans.
He said that while government has done most of the development projects such as roads and electricity, among others, people need to address the remaining challenges of poverty eradication at a household level.
While at the College, President Museveni inspected different stalls of women groups and encouraged them to continue and fight poverty.
State Minister for Education and Vice-Chairperson of NRM Women’s League in Central Region, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, saluted the Pto address challenges that women face, especially at the grassroots level.
She said the conference had benefited women through training in different entrepreneurial skills such as mushroom growing, bee keeping and fish farming, among others. ENDS
