President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru for being a uniting factor and for fighting divisions in Bunyoro-Kitara.
The President, who was speaking at the 22nd coronation anniversary (Empango) of the Omukama that took place today at the Karuzika Royal Palace in Hoima district, said that when kingdoms were restored in Uganda by the National Resistance Movement Government, some people were scared about divisions happening but that he himself insisted that divisions would not surface.
"I did not see any problem apart from greedy people mishandling it. I do not want people who promote disunity. As NRM, we cannot accept that," he said.
Mr. Museveni commended the Omukama for choosing people from neighbouring societies to work in the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara. He observed that "the Omukama knows how to unite his people. He chose Norman Lukumu, a Mugungu as the Prime Minister. I want Kingdoms to bring out oneness," he stressed.
Regarding the issue of compensating Bunyoro by the British government, President Museveni advised the Banyoro to concentrate on working diligently to enhance further their welfare as they await judgment from the court. "When we win the case, we shall bring the money and if we do not win that will not stop us from using our own money to develop Bunyoro," he said.
He added that with the discovery of oil, Uganda is set to earn more revenue adding that the issue of the oil pipeline and the refinery, have been resolved and that work is about to begin.
Turning to infrastructure development, President Museveni pledged the NRM Government’s commitment to construct the Mubende – Kagadi –Ndaiga road as well as the Kigumba – Masindi – Kyenjojo road. "Let the opposition not lie to you that we have not done this or that. I know what has been done and not done. In this term, we are going to use planning and prioritizing," he said.
Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, commended the President for appointing as Cabinet Ministers people from Bunyoro. He urged those who have made Ministers to work hard for the development of Bunyoro-Kitara in particular and Uganda as whole.
He further thanked the President for attending and contributing to the success of the Empango celebrations and also the Movement Government’s assistance to him to undergo medical treatment. Some cultural leaders from other parts of the country and Parliamentary Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, among others, attended the Empango celebrations. ENDS
